Recruitment 

Recruitment as “the process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating them to apply for the jobs in the organization.” - Edwin B Flippo.

Recruitment is a process to discover the sources of manpower to meet the requirement of the staffing schedule and to employee effective measures to attracting that manpower in adequate number to facilitate effective selection of an effective workforce. - Yoder.
  
Recruitment and selection activity is predominantly dealt with in two fields:
  • A generally prescriptive human resource management or personnel management viewpoint and,
  • A very technical psychology literature that focuses on the validity (absolute and relative) of different forms of recruitment techniques, such as competency modelling, interviews and various types of psychometric testing.

Selection

Selection is the process of picking individuals who have relevant qualifications to fill jobs in an organization. Selection is much more than just choosing the best candidate. It is an attempt to strike a happy balance between what the applicant can and wants to do and what the organization requires. 

Selection is important, the reason being, hiring of good resources can help in increasing the overall performance of the organization.

The difference between recruitment and selection.



Both the processes of recruitment and selection are considered important for the effective functioning of the organizations and they take place simultaneously. They are imperative for growth and development of the organization.

  2. With covid 19 outbreak is it a huge issue recruiting talented for a company. In my view I think it is not that much hard in IT sector since most of IT officers are following working-at-home procedure. Recruitment refers to a process of simulating applicants for a vacant job position and finding qualified applicants for the job and Selection refers to the process of shortlisting the applicants and selecting the best applicants who are suitable for that job position.

Yes Chanika, Recruitment and Selection plays a vital role in every industry and is an important operation in HRM designed to maximize employee strength in order to meet the employer's strategic goals and objectives. It is a process of sourcing, screening, shortlisting and selecting the right candidates for the required vacant positions. Recruitment and selection both are very closely linked.
